Did you record the entire album with Jon?

BC: We recorded everything with him. I brought in my demos, and we just got to work. My biggest fear as a songwriter is working with a producer who wants to change the way I do things, but that is not the way Jon works. He just wants to enhance the way Bobb and I work. He’s like a mentor to us at this point.

Bobb and I would both get so nervous recording guitar or drums in front of him because Jon is like this musical genius. He seriously would pick up the guitar and just start playing some Byrds song so perfectly my jaw would just drop. He’s playing some stuff on the record too: percussion, some guitar, some keyboard; which all sounds amazing.

Great news!!

In 2008, July was working on a screenplay which was based on her performance “Things We Don’t Understand and Definitely Are Not Going To Talk About.” This multi-media stage show incorporated live and taped video segments which included musical help from Jon Brion. So our hope back then was Brion would also score the film. While we’re not 100% sure that this stage performance is what evolved into “The Future,” clearly Brion has been on July’s radar for some time now.
